A community account is valuable even when it does not establish that a supernatural event occurred. It can document how, when, where, and from whom a person inherited the story.
What makes a useful account
- Approximate year and the storyteller’s age at the time.
- The neighborhood, school, family, or social setting where the story was heard.
- The version of the origin that was told.
- The details of any visit, separated from later interpretation.
- Permission to publish the person’s name or a request for anonymity.
Editorial approach
Accounts should be quoted faithfully, lightly edited only for clarity, and labeled as personal recollection. The site should never imply that an account has been independently verified unless it has.
